
KARACHI: A meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) parliamentary party will be held here today to nominate the party’s candidate for the slot of chief minister of Sindh.
The high-level huddle will also discuss and finalise the names of party leaders for the post of speaker and deputy speaker of the Sindh Assembly.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will preside over the meeting which is expected to start at 3:00pm.
The PPP, which won a third consecutive term in Sindh in the July 25 polls, is set to form the next government in the province as it secured 74 seats in the provincial assembly, followed by 22 of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and 16 of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM).
Mr Bhutto Zardari had earlier announced to nominate Syed Murad Ali Shah, who won the provincial assembly seat PS-80 as chief executive of the province for a second time.
The inaugural session of the Sindh Assembly is scheduled to take place on August 13. Newly-elected MPAs will take the oath as member of the legislature.
As per schedule, the election of speaker and deputy speaker of the house will be held on August 15.
