A political party spreading ‘kidnapping scare’, claims Karachi’s top cop

KARACHI: In a dramatic revelation in the wake child kidnapping reports, Additional Inspector General Karachi Ameer Sheikh says a political party is spreading abduction scare in the metropolis for its own gains.

The Karachi police chief, in a statement, said a political group is using social media to spread rumours of rampant kidnappings in the city.

Regarding a missing boy, Rehan, in Sohrab Goth who was later found dead, Sheikh said the murderer of the boy had been caught from Peshawar and he lived in the same locality of the victim. The accused is being shifted to Karachi today, he added.

Rehan was reported missing from within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station was found murdered.

Police had earlier said that the body of the boy believed to be around 12 years old, was recovered from bushes near Al-Rehman Society. A rope was found around his neck.

Rehan had been missing since August 26 from Sohrab Goth and his parents had lodged an FIR under section 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the PPC against the unknown suspects.

The additional IG narrated another incident of child abduction in New Karachi who was recovered from Liaquatabad later the same night.

Police believed that the kidnapper might have dropped him there owing to fear of being arrested as the police have taken its cognizance and the media has highlighted it.

Mr. Sheikh said people who had no connection with the victim’s family were staging protest and resorting to violence on the streets. He added that the political affiliation of protesters was clearly known .

Meanwhile speaking to ARY News, DIG Ameen Yousuf said 158 cases of chuld abduction were reported this year so far.

He quoted an analysis conducted by a local NGO claiming that most of the missing children left home due to domestic issues.
