Former justice Amanullah Khan appointed Balochistan Governor

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has appointed Justice (retd) Amanullah Khan as Governor of Balochistan, a brief statement issued by the PM Media Office said.

Mr Alvi made the appointment on the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the statement added.

Yasinzai was born in the year 1954 in Quetta and completed his Bachelors’ and Master’s from Forman Christian College, Lahore. He started his law practice in 1981 and was appointed as judge of the BHC in 1997.

Yasinzai became the BHC chief justice on September 14, 2005 and continued until August 5, 2009.

Yasinzai’s nomination came after the resignation of Mohammad Khan Achakzai as the governor Balochistan.

The former judge says his main focus during governorship would be education, the betterment of security in the province and curbing the trust deficit between the province and Islamabad.

He was quoted as saying that security had improved in the province quite a bit, “there are less kidnappings for ransom here than other parts of the country and while sectarian violence incidents have also lessened,” however he added that more wok need to be done to root out the menace.
