The legal metrology department officials booked about 200 cases as they raided more than 50 stores in Hyderabad for sticking bills over the price tags on the branded clothing during Dasara sales.
According to the report published in the Deccan Chronicle, the assistant controller Bhaskar Reddy, who head a team during the raid said, the officials were responding to complaints against the outlets regarding violation of the Legal Metrology Department Packaged Commodities Act, 2011.
He said “Many shops had stuck new rate tags on top of the old ones to show that they are offering discounts. They should not paste stickers on the printed price tags and garments should be in standard measure as per the specifications on the sticker, branded garments should be sold only in packaged form and management must follow rules and regulations.”
As per this Act, every package should compulsorily have dress size, manufacturer full details, rate, manufacturing date and consumer help desk number printed on it, having any of the details missing of this lot will be a violation.
Keeping in view the increased shopping for the upcoming Dasara festival, the department was taking steps to protect consumers.
Mr Reddy said raids were carried out at outlets like Blackberry at Banjara Hills, Chennai Silks at Mehdipatnam, South India Shopping Mall at Secunderabad, KLM Fashion Mall Jeedimetla, VRK Silks at Kukatpally, Bhavani Brothers at Langar Houz, Anutex Cloth Store at Ameerpet, Geeta Krishna Shopping Mall at Vanasthalipuram, Vandana Textiles at Vanasthalipuram, Sri Krishna at Kukatpally and Neerus at Masab Tann and many more.
