The Irish rock star formerly known as Sinead O’Connor has converted to Islam.
Sinead openly declared that she has converted and takes the Muslim name Shuhada’ Davitt. The name Shuhada is Arabic meaning ‘martyrs’ or ‘witnesses’.
Irish Imam Shaykh Dr Umar al-Qadri on Thursday posted a video of the singer saying Shahada (the Islamic declaration of faith).

According to her several posts on Twitter, she wrote: ‘This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. ‘This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada.’

Back in the 1990s, the 51-year-old had also been ordained a priest by the Irish Orthodox and Apostolic Church but it appears she had swapped the clerical collar for good and don the hijab.
She shared several images of herself in hijab and also changed her profile picture to ‘Wear A Hijab: JUST DO IT.’

The mother of four also posted a video of herself reciting the Azaan, the Islamic call to prayer. ‘Here is my attempt at singing the Asan [sic]. I got some pronunciation [sic] wrong because emotions took me from my page…but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come.’

O’Connor also revealed that she had received her first Hijab as a gift from her friend in Dublin.
