Junaid lynching: High Court grants interim bail to key accused

Chandigarh: Naresh Kumar, key accused in the lynching of 17-year-old Junaid Khan, was granted interim bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Junaid Khan was stabbed to death on a train near Ballabhgarh in Haryana in June last year when he and his brothers were returning to their homes in Khandawali village after shopping in Delhi for Eid.

The gory incident occurred on a Mathura-bound train on June 22 last year. After killing Junaid Khan’s body was dumped near Asaoti village in Faridabad district.

In the wake of Supreme Court’s stay order on the proceedings of the case before the trial court, a single bench of Justice Daya Chaudhary granted interim bail to Kumar the main accused in Khan’s lynching. He had been in judicial custody since July 8, 2017.

Junaid Khan’s father Jalaluddin moved Supreme Court with a special leave petition after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the petition filed by him seeking a CBI inquiry into the lynching of Junaid.
