PM urges nation to step forward in making Pakistan ‘polio-free’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday urged the nation to step forward and take the responsibility of making Pakistan a polio-free country, ARY News reported.

As per details, the premier took to Twitter and wrote, “As the nationwide campaign against polio begins across Pakistan, I call on the nation to step forward, take responsibility and make Pakistan polio-free.”.

Previously, Prime Minister Imran Khan had assured of his commitment with the federal and provincial governments towards polio eradication from the country.

Prime Minister Khan had stressed upon the need for larger efforts to aware masses about the distressing effects of the crippling disease of Polio, especially for the future of the country.

Last month, the anti-polio campaign began countrywide with the government’s resolve to root out the crippling disease from the country.

In Punjab, more than seven million children will be administrated polio vaccine in 12 highly sensitive districts during the campaign.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a total of 8,96,205 children below the age of five years will be administered polio vaccine in seven tribal districts.

In Sindh, polio campaign begins in all districts of Karachi and eighteen districts of interior Sindh where over seven million children under five years of age will be administered polio vaccine.

Similarly in Balochistan, three day anti-polio campaign is being launched in 15 districts where more than 1.3 million children will be given polio drops.

World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over spread of polio and termed it as an international health emergency.
