ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Omar Ayub Khan has joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Ayub, the grandson of former military ruler General Ayub Khan, joined the PTI after a meeting with party chief Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak and PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen were also present at the meeting, according to a statement issued by PTI on its official twitter account.
The former MNA, who hails from Haripur, remained minister of state for finance during the regime of former military dictator Pervaiz Musharraf.
He was elected to the National Assembly in 2014 on the ticket of PML-N, but was later de-seated by the Supreme Court that declared elections in his constituency null and void.
In 2013 general elections, he had lost the national assembly seat in Haripurt to a PTI candidate, but was declared victorious after re-polling at seven polling stations of the constituency in 2014.
