PML-N set to hold public meeting in Lodhran after by-poll victory

LODHRAN: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is set to hold a public meeting in Lodhran today where it surprisingly won the national assembly seat (NA-154) vacated after disqualification of arch-rival PTI leader Jahangir Tareen.

The PML-N leadership announced to hold the rally in the wake of its candidate Pir Iqbal Shah winning the recently-held by-election in Lodhran to express gratitude to the constituents.

Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will address the gathering at the New Stadium of Lodhran.

All arrangements have been finalized for the meeting with the venue and roads leading to it festooned with party flags and portraits of Nawaz Sharif, the chief minister and local party leaders.

PTI fielded a young candidate, Ali Tareen, against the ruling party candidate who attained surprising victory in the by-election on National Assembly seat (NA-154) in Punjab’s Lodhran district earlier this week.

PML-N’s Pir Iqbal Shah secured 1,16, 950 votes while Tareen came second with 91, 230 votes.

The NA seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified Jahangir Tareen under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution on December 15.

He was de-seated for deliberately submitting a false statement in the Supreme Court to conceal his property in the United Kingdom.
