‘Kathua incident choti si baat hai, itna tool na den, says J&K’s Dy CM Gupta

We should not give this incident so much importance!

New Delhi: The gruesome rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua’s Rasana Village that sparked nationwide outrage irrespective of religion, from all walks of life, according to the newly elected RSS ardent follower Kavinder Gupta is a minor incident and believes should not be given so much attention.

It was just moments after the 59-year-old RSS follower took an oath as the Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister, he termed the gruesome rape and murder of the eight-year-old as a ‘minor small incident’ which should not be given so much of attention.

While the whole nation is still demanding shocked at the brutality of the crime, the newly elected Dy. CM of Jammu and Kashmir believes the incident was a very small one.

It was just moments after he made the remark, opposition parties took a straight jab at him demanding Gupta to issue a clarification of his statement.

“Kathua maamla ek chota sa maamla hai. Isko itna tool nahi dena chahiye (Kathua case is a small incident which should not be given so much importance),” Gupta had replied when reporters asked him whether the reshuffle of positions in Mufti’s Government is a result of the Kathua incident.

Gupta termed the brutal Kathua incident as ‘minor issue(Chhoti si baat)’

“We have to think that this should never happen again, and the child gets justice. There are many challenges like this facing the government. We should not give this incident so much importance,” Gupta told the reporters.

Gupta also said the matter is with the courts and they will decide on the further developments into the case when he was asked about the demand for CBI probe in the Kathua rape.

National Conference’s president for Jammu province and MLA Davinder Singh Rana has condemned Gupta’s remarks on Kathua incident. He said Gupta’s remarks showed “insensitivity to such a gory crime which is a slur on humanity and has brought shame to Jammu and Kashmir,” adding that unfortunately, this is the sad reflection of ruling part’s mindset.

While Congress leader Salman Nizami tweeted, “After pro-rapist MLA was inducted in Ministry, this shameless/heartless BJP neta- Dy CM JK Kavinder Gupta says Rape and murder of 8-year-old girl in Kathua is a SMALL issue, should not be given much hype. And his supporters Laugh…..! Shame BJP Shame (sic).”

Reacting to Nizami’s comments at his remarks, Gupta clarified that he meant that the Kathua case was before the Supreme Court, adding, “Continuously debating on the issue is not right. Giving this matter weight is not a good thing. I said that there are a lot of issues like this.”
