MQM-P leadership meets Jahangir Tareen, presents demand

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Monday presented its demands before a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation headed by Jahangir Tareen in Karachi.

The PTI delegation including Arif Alvi, Imran Ismail and Firdous Shamim Naqvi called on MQM-P leadership at Bahadurabad office.

Jahangir asked the MQM to support the PTI in the center. He also consulted the Karachi-based party regarding opposition in the Sindh Assembly, said sources.

The sources said the MQM presented several demands to the PTI including recounting in eight constituencies in Karachi, announcing Karachi package and devolving local government powers.

While talking to media after landing at Karachi airport on his private jet, Jahangir Tareen said the PTI had completed the required number of members of provincial assembly for government in Punjab.

He said his party did not get MQM-P’s vote but it got votes for change. He offered recounting in any constituency where the opposition parties believed that rigging took place.

“We have to change Pakistan now,” he said.

Faisal Sabzwari said whoever became prime minister they would seek him to hold recounting in the constituencies of Karachi where MQM-P candidates were defeated with low margin.

“Votes were not counted before our polling agents. We will present our reservations to the PTI,” he said adding that MQM-P was not interested in the federal government.

He also said his party would sit in opposition in the Sindh Assembly.

Separately, expressing reservations on the election results, Khalid Maqbool has announced that the MQM-P would stage a protest before the ECP office in Karachi on Thursday.

“If you need us in the parliament then you should speak about necessities of the metropolis,” he said.
