SRINAGAR: Amid fear of losing vision, doctors at the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital on Wednesday successfully removed a pellet lodged in the right eye of 20-month old Hiba Nisar, the youngest pellet victim.
“We have removed the pellet which was lodged in the right eye of the infant girl. We cannot say for sure that her ability to see with the affected eye will be restored, but we are making our best efforts,” according to a doctor, who was part of the team that performed the operation.
The toddler was among 50 injured in a village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on November 25 where six militants a civilian and an army man were killed in a gunfight.

The doctors treating on the toddler said the baby will have to undergo a series of surgeries and even then there is no guarantee that her eyesight will be restored completely.
Hiba has undergone two surgeries until now. Earlier, the metallic balls have been removed from her eye. Wednesday’s was the second surgery she underwent.
The toddler has become a face of pellet horror in Kashmir.
