ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have booked the chief security officer of the US embassy for attempting to help a US diplomat, who injured two motorcyclists in a road mishap in the capital, escape from their clutches.
Two motorcyclists were injured after being hit by a car driven by Rex Ausburn, second secretary at the US embassy, on Sunday night on Constitution Avenue near the Pak Secretariat Complex.
The police official, who were on duty nearby, took him and his car into custody and shifted them to the Secretarial police station for legal action.
A case has been registered against chief security officer Taimoor Pirzada at the police station for allegedly helping the diplomat avoid arrest at the hands of the police.
Pirzada has been alleged to have manhandled police officials, including the station house officer (SHO) of the police station, and trying to help the driver of the SUV that hit motorcyclists escape.
The case has been registered under section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and other relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
