Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed the Union home, external affairs ministries and Telangana government to respond to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the Centre and state governments to provide basic amenities to Rohingya families living in Hyderabad.
An acting bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi was dealing with the PIL by the Migrants Rights Council represented by its president P. Narayana Swami. Swami told DC that he had come to know about the problems of the Rohingyas through media reports. “Deccan Chronicle had carried a detailed report about how the Rohingyas are living in inhuman conditions in the city. After reading the report, we approached the HC,” he said.
Petitioner’s counsel P Shashi Kiran told HC that Rohingya Mulsim families had been suffering due to lack of basic amenities and were living in awful conditions here. Kiran urged the court to direct concerned authorities to provide justice to Rohingyas.
