GEORGIA: At least 11 people suffered serious injuries after a chairlift went out of control at a resort in Georgia the other day. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms.
It all started when the lift started going at high speed backwards meaning that people were unable to get off safely.
Victims on the lift were sent flying at the bottom at the Gudauri ski resort in the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia.
People on the slope and near the end of the lift were heard shouting ‘jump, jump’ at people on the chairs in a bid to prevent them from being flung through the air.
Eight people suffered minor injuries while another two were seriously hurt.
Georgia Health Minister David Sergeenko said that the victims were of Georgian, Swedish, Ukrainian and Russian citizenship, including one pregnant Swedish woman, according to Huffington Post.
