ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris will resume today cross-examination of prosecution witness, NAB director general operations, Zahir Shah, in the Flagship reference.

Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir will preside over the trial proceedings in the federal capital.

At the previous hearing, the defence side concluded cross-examination of the witness in the Avenfield apartments reference.

Shah testified that the documents the bureau had received from the UK Central Authority (UKCA) in response to mutual legal assistance (MLA) remained in his custody from March 21 to 27 when he handed these to the investigation officer.

He said the NAB had written a letter to the Supreme Court for acquiring Volume X of the JIT, which was subsequently provided.

The witness submitted documents regarding annual dividends of the offshore companies involved in the Flagship reference, list of their directors and shareholders and official title of registry of some properties in the name of some offshore companies.

The Flagship reference pertained to the Sharif family’s offshore companies, including Flagship Investments Limited, Hartstone Properties Limited, Que Holdings Limited, Quint Eaton Place 2 Limited, Quint Saloane Limited (formerly Quint Eaton Place Limited), Quaint Limited, Flagship Securities Limited, Quint Gloucester Place Limited, Quint Paddington Limited (formerly Rivates Estates Limited).

Nawaz Sharif and his sons, Hussain and Hassan, have been named in the case, but he is the only standing trial as his sons are absconders from the law.
