ISLAMABAD: As an accountability court in Islamabad resumed hearing of the Avenfield properties reference against the Sharif family on Monday, former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar appeared before it.
Judge Muhammad Bashir is hearing the case in the federal capital. Khawaja Haris, the counsel for the former premier, continued today cross-examining star witness Wajid Zia, head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) after he completed recording his statement spanning several days.
At the previous hearing, Zia told the court that the JIT had decided to contact Jerry Freeman through a solicitor based in the UK.
He said the JIT had sent a questionnaire to Freeman with mutual consensus. Jerry Freemen confirmed that Hassan Nawaz had signed two trust deeds on January 2, 2006. Freeman has been a witness of signing on the trust deed.
The prosecution witness said that the copies of the trust deed are present at the office of Jerry Freeman.
Sharif’s counsel asked if Freeman was asked to bring the evidence to Pakistan, to which the witness said he was not asked for it.
