KASHMORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani emerged as the first returned candidate of the 2018 general elections when he was elected unopposed on a provincial assembly seat, PS-6, Kashmore.
The returning officer concerned issued a notification, declaring Mr. Bijarani winner after nomination papers of his only contestant were rejected by an appellate tribunal of the Sindh High Court.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) candidate Pir Abdul Qayyum had filed the papers to contest election against the PPP candidate, who is son of former Sindh minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani.
Mr. Bijarani had earlier announced to contest election as independent candidate after developing differences with the PPP whom he accused of trying to oust him from election race by secretly challenging his candidacy.
Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani along with his wife Fariha Razaque was found shot dead at his house in Karachi on February 1.
He was elected in 2013 from PS-16 Jacobabad on a PPP ticket.The veteran politician had served as MPA, MNA and Senator and was affiliated with the PPP since 70s.
He became member of the National Assembly for the first time in 1990 and held the portfolio of Sindh’s Education Minister.
