Imran kicks off poll campaign from Mianwali today

PTI Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan is all set to kick-start party’s campaign for general elections from Mianwali today.

The PTI chief, in a video message, had appealed to the people of Mianwali to attend a public meeting being organised at the city’s Hockey Ground in a large number.

He said he decided to launch election campaign from his native town because of the people of the city who had helped him step in the political arena.

Mr. Khan said it was Mianwali that elected him to the National Assembly for the first time in 2002.

He said the PTI has emerged as the country’s largest party and hoped that it would form the next government after the polls.

He expressed optimism that it would make a new Pakistan as dreamt by Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

The PTI chief is likely to contest the July 25 polls on five National Assembly seats in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkha.

A  day earlier,  a Sindh High Court appellate tribunal dismissed an appeal challenging a decision of the returning officer concerned to accept nomination papers of Mr. Khan for Karachi’s NA-243 constituency.

The tribunal turned down objections on the PTI chief’s nomination papers and upheld the RO’s decision.
